Tom Sykes, 27, Sports Coach

 

Why did you start personal training?

Originally started seeing Joey after breaking my ankle playing football. The initial target was to strengthen the ankle and improve range and stability. After months in a cast, combined with my first year as a parent I had put on a fair bit of weight and I wanted to change this but perhaps needed a push to get going.

Joey and I spoke and we set the goal for me to improve my overall strength and lower my body fat percentage to allow myself to be fighting fit for when I’m able to return to playing competitive football but also to just feel happier with my appearance.

 

What have you achieved through personal training?

Joey has genuinely had a huge impact on me in just a few months. Firstly, I have dropped 1 and a half stone in 3-4 months but also gained muscle and feel so much stronger! I’ve never been someone to have the confidence to go and lift weights but I now can’t wait for my sessions with Joey and leave feeling absolutely buzzing!

A big challenge for me has always been controlling my diet. Joeys motivation, knowledge and regular communication has helped me kick so many bad eating habits! I have been too lazy to make healthier meals and was very partial to a takeaway. I now have a much better knowledge of food nutrition and no longer struggle with huge cravings!

Perhaps the biggest change I’ve found has been to my mental health which is something I hadn’t considered when starting with Joey. I have struggled with my mental health for a long time. I now have an energy, stronger self-esteem and general positivity which I haven’t felt for a very long time. So much so that my family and partner have both said how pleased they are. 

 

How has your coach helped you with your goals?

Joey is the most driven individual I have ever met. His knowledge and dedication to his craft is incredible. His knowledge of personal training, nutrition and general well-being has helped to change my life.

I have seen changes in my dedication and attitude towards training, my motivation to maintain a balanced diet which supports my training and also how to look after my general wellbeing. I have managed to smash targets quicker than I could have expected! Yet his motivation has given me the hunger to want more, to work harder and to set new goals!

How would you describe/summarise your experience working with your coach?

Life changing! I’ve run out of superlatives for this guy.

 

What would you say to somebody who was thinking about trying personal training with your coach?

I’ve seen a lot of personal trainers but none with the drive, the knowledge & the ability to motivate like Joey. I guarantee you’ll leave your first session with Joey feeling as inspired and confident as I did! 

Joey is a very relatable and understanding guy. Just an all-round brilliant lad.
